Every weekend there are Open Houses being held on the Sunshine Coast. The good thing for you to know about an open house is that it is an opportunity for you to view some of the homes that are available. This also allows you to get to know the different areas of the coast from Gibsons, to Sechelt, to Pender Harbour and beyond. What you need to know about open houses though, is that they should be just one of your sources in your home purchase plan for finding the right home for you. There are many homes for sale where open houses are never held or rarely held and therefore you are not seeing most of what is available to you.
In order for you to get the information you need to find your new home, you need to view all of the houses that fulfill the criteria that you have set out. So what do you do? Take out pen and paper, sit down with the person you are buying a home with, and start your list. Each of you should write down on your own piece of paper, all of the things that are important to you in a home. Then, prioritize that list and check off the top 5 that are 'must haves' on your list. Then... put your lists together, talk about those top 5 that you each have and end up with 4 to 6 points on your combined list that you both agree that you 'must have' in your new home and property.
Next step, contact a Realtor who is willing to sit down with you and take the time to find out what is really important to you in a new home. Go through your list and ask to be shown homes that fulfill the specific criteria that you have set out. You will save yourself a lot of time, money and energy by following this process.
